Impact printers only print order tickets for a kitchen. They’re not affected by heat and can withstand warm environments. They require heat-sensitive paper and won’t work with non-thermal, receipt printer paper.
We really like the Apple MFi certification with the auto connect feature. We also like the small footprint of this receipt printer. Overall this is one easy and fast printer to setup. The Apple MFi makes it real easy. You just turn the printer on within range of your iPad.
Atm it’s cheaper for me to use something else other than square, than to change the printer tablet setup. It appears other people have similar issues. Square managment need to grasp the economics here of only catering to a small hardware segment(Star printers) of the market, while marketing themselves as a simple DIY eftpos POS for small businesses, who burn themselves on compatability issues. Hopefully Square can solve this issue.
You may plug a receipt printer into one of the three USB ports found on the Square Stand accessories hub, but kitchen printers are typically located some distance away from your checkout register – farther away than a USB cable will reach.
Regarding the printers, several of our Square customers have had to return their TSP100iii bluetooth printers due to compatibility issues. Star’s TSP654II Bluetooth model is the best choice. They make a model specifically designed for either iOS or Windows/Android systems. Here is a link with information and the specific model numbers for each: http://www.posshopper.com/star-tsp654ii-bti-thermal-receipt-printer.html
Happy Memorial Day! Please note that since this is a public holiday, most banks are closed on 5/28, in addition to weekends. While Square has sent your deposits to your linked bank account, it might take your bank another business day or two to post these funds.
The following hardware accessories are compatible with Square Stand. All hardware connecting directly to the Square Stand but will connect to the stand via USB. Note that with Square Stand you can use either a cash drawer that plugs into the receipt printer or one that plugs into the USB block of the Square Stand. We recommend using the printer connection since the printer connected cash drawer is simpler and less expensive than the USB version.
This is one of the more common receipt printers used with Square Payments. It generally costs less than $200. It come in white and black color. It has an auto-cutter to slice receipt paper for you. It uses thermal paper so you never never need to fill it with ink. It is generally easy to maintain and add paper when you need it. So this is a printer that works well in a wide variety of environments. However, if you are in a kitchen or some area where the air is moist you may want to get an impact printer as thermal paper does not work well in moist environments where there is little ventilation. Here is the user manual for the Star Micronics SM-S230i.
The Star Micronics SM-S230i is light weight at only 7.7 ounces. It is small and easy to carry around. If you’re someone who sell at a farmers market, craft fair or some other place where mobility is very important, the Star Micronics SM-S230i may be what you need. It uses thermal paper and connects to your iPhone, iPad with bluetooth or USB. Here is the user manual for the Star Micronics SM-S230i.

My first inclination, having just taken a class in C++ using pthreads, was to simply use locks. I created a shared NSLock through a class method and locked before listening and printing, as described in Apple’s Threading Programming Guide. I was excited when it accomplished the mutual exclusion I wanted, but my coworkers were less thrilled about using such a low-level solution given the higher level abstractions available in iOS. In search of a higher-level solution, I replaced the global concurrent queue on which I was running the printer code with a serial dispatch queue, allowing only one block to be run at once. I was getting warmer, but my new solution still raised some concerns.

Square primarily works with the Socket CHS 7Ci scanner, although it will also work with the Socket CHS 7Qi (2D barcode scanner) or other Socket CHS imagers (7Xi, 7XiRx). The Socket scanner must be an imager to connect with Square properly.

I am sure that this has been asked and answered, but the search feature on this communities site is not very robust and the information I’ve been able to gather from square/communities is not entirely clear. So I am asking again (maybe).
Receipt printers can have several notification features that can be incredibly useful. Some models will alert the user if there has been a loss of Internet in the middle of a printing job, and others buzz to notify the user that the printing job is done. The latter feature helps keep the user from ripping out the receipt before it’s complete, and having to start all over again. There are also models with LED status lights that tell the user important information like when the ink cartridge is low.
Note that you may connect a barcode scanner via USB cable to the Square Stand, but if you are using an iPad without Square Stand, the barcode scanner must be a bluetooth barcode scanner. For more information on the correct bluetooth scanner to use when connecting directly to an iPad, click here.
This printer is terrible. It always has connectivity issues and it is constantly jamming. Worst mistake i made for my business. We have to keep it off until we get a customer otherwise it keeps printing no host receipts and it jams. Called star micronics they said it was probably an issue on my end. WRONG! MY other register, which is hooked up by same switch board, has an Epson printer and it gives no issues. Do not buy this printer for your business. Go with an Epson. Same amount of $, no problems.
As a bluetooth only device, it is a bit glitchy. If you are wanting to use it with a phone/tablet only as a standalone device, look elsewhere. The miura m010 reader works great for this, though is unfortunately not available on amazon.

In the 1400s, the German blacksmith Johannes Gutenberg created mechanical movable type printing, which many say inspired the Printing Revolution and, as a result, the Age of Enlightenment since information could finally be spread far and wide on paper. One of the most famous products to come of Gutenberg’s printing press was a version of the bible. After that, Gutenberg began printing receipt books that businesses could purchase and use to keep track of exchanges with their customers.
This video takes a look at which receipt printers you can use with Square and the Square Stand with iOS, and which printers are best for your business. The USB printers can ONLY print with the Square Stand. We go over the TSP100, TSP100ECO, TSP100III, SM-S220i, and SP700. For more information on these printers, see our Square Compatible Receipt Printers article: https://posguys.com/blog/product-info…
I looked around for a hardware bundle for my Square POS setup and ultimately went with this combination. Very pleased with the product and the seller’s follow up was excellent. They answered several of my questions quickly and over the holiday weekend.

If you have a Square Stand, in addition to the printers above, you can use certain USB interface receipt printers. The following receipt printers are only compatible with the Square Stand, not the Square card reader:
I do appreciate your post though and I wanted to let you know that we are working to provide support for more printers and your feedback is welcome! For example, we recently launched support for several Epson printers which can be used with Square on iOS devices (the full list of printers is here).
Edit to say that the network issues I mentioned were tied to the wireless router we were using. Replaced that piece and the printer started working great. I still recommend purchasing as a package for better price and customer service, but not a bad piece of equipment.
The new Square Contactless and Chip Reader is included so you can accept every way your customers want to pay. Place the reader in the dock, connect the dock to the USB hub, and you’re ready for business. Accept magstripe cards, chip cards, and NFC payments like Apple Pay.
I know that the Square corporate line is that the APG Vasario VB554A-BL1616 is the only USB cash drawer that works with the Square Stand hub (which means you don’t need a printer, which is what I want). I am wondering if anyone has experience using a different, less expensive USB drawer with the Square Stand and USB hub?
We recommend using the Square contactless and chip reader for a fast, seamless payment experience on all devices – not just those without a headphone jack. To accept magstripe-only cards, or gift cards, we recommend using the Apple Lightning to Headphone Jack adapter (included with the iPhone 7) to connect your Square magstripe reader. You might also try a third party USB-C to 3.5mm audio adapter, but please note that Square has not officially tested compatibility between the magstripe reader and other third party adapters.
Receipts have been an important part of society since nearly the beginning of civilization. In 3200 BCE Samaria, Israel, temple offerings were an important part of the taxation system. People would write down symbols to represent the offerings they had made to their temples, and these acted as a form of receipt. Papyrus receipts from Egypt have been found that date back to the mid-1200s, recording purchases like cattle and grain. Some receipts at the time were chiseled onto stone, but these were inconvenient to carry around and cumbersome at best.
