square register app | Great Solutions Available Here
1. Receipt Printer Connection: If the cash drawer is connected to the receipt printer: Whenever you print a receipt, the printer also sends a “drawer open” signal to the cash drawer and your cash drawer will open automatically.
Had 3 of these in my place to on cash draws one in the kitchen they work well as long as there is no internet/WiFi drop off. Using it with couple IPad Airs and Square register app for several years. When I loose internet or sometimes they seem to disconnect from the register even when I don’t have internet problems and they usually have to powered off and on. Also in the mean time my cash draw wont open and I have to find the key. Being so annoyed I with connection issues I have since replaced them with the USB versions (except the kitchen one) and all my problems stopped.
The Ethernet printers compatible with Square Point of Sale are thermal printers. They require heat-sensitive paper and won’t work with non-thermal receipt paper. These types of printers aren’t ideal for kitchens or high-temperature working areas.
Thanks for your offer to look into this and the possibility of finding it in Canada. Now I’m thinking a Bluetooth printer wouldn’t be so bad. I assume I could get a second one at some point to work in our kitchen (no grease or anything like that). Wouldn’t mind help on finding out how much the printer is, cost to ship, etc. Would yo mind? Thanks. John

NOT FOR USE WITH SQUARE STAND! If using a Square Stand consider the Square Stand Starter kit which has a printer that plugs into the stand. The printer in this kit must be plugged into your router.

POSMicro – Using a Mobile Printer with Square
Last but not least, though I’m enough of a geek that the code itself would have been interesting and fun for me, it was really special getting to see first-hand how the product truly helped people. Meeting a merchant who had previously only been able to give out handwritten receipts, handing her a Bluetooth printer, and seeing how our new feature would make her job easier was the highlight of my summer.
If you are using your iPad or iPhone by itself with the Square app, you will not be able to use a USB Star Micronics Printer. You will need either a Bluetooth Receipt Printer, or Ethernet Receipt Printer. A good reason for going with Ethernet, is that you can have multiple devices print to one printer. If you are using an Android device, you can use either an Ethernet Receipt Printer, or and of the USB Receipt Printer stated above as long as you use the USB OTG(on the go) adapter. Please note, Bluetooth is not currently supported on Android for Square.
Star Micronics TSP100 futurePRNT is the first all-in-one receipt printer. Yes, all the parts and software are included in one box. To get you setup quickly, we’ve included an internal power supply, interface cable, power cable, complete mounting kits and a paper roll. To bring you the future of receipt printing now, we’re also including a full set of software utilities. Redesign your receipt without modifying your application. Add your logo. Add coupons. Preview receipts and enhance bar codes. Included operating system drivers allow for ‘Plug & Play’ automatic installation.
Overall, this is a great printer. I can’t complain about the price because for similar thermal printers, this is relatively cheap. Any cheaper and there are issues with printing mechanics and whatnot.
The only receipt printers that Square recognizes are certain Star Micronics and Epson brand receipt printers, so the majority of receipt printers that work with Square are listed above. If you have the older TSP100 (which has since been replaced by the TSP100III) with an Ethernet interface, you can use that with Square.
If the email address entered for receipt delivery is no longer active or is incorrect, Square will need to unlink this information from your customer’s payment card. Have your customer contact us for help.
Bought this strictly to print receipts with the Amazon Local Register iPad App and card reader, as it is the only receipt printer supported at this time by that platform. (Bought it used via an Amazon re-seller; works perfectly. It was easy to set up on the network using the downloadable Windows software. Once set up, my iPad and the Amazon Local Register app found the printer and linked to it easily. I haven’t tried using any of the other options (like printing our logo or printing coupons), but for what I bought it for it works perfectly. It prints extremely fast and clearly. The cutter works well, too. It is nice that it can be mounted to a vertical surface if desired.

The STAR MICRONICS TSP654IIBI is fast and easy to configure. It is Apple MFi certified. It has auto connect and so it will connect to your iPad automatically. If you want to setup your receipt printer fast, this may be one of the best options. There is no serial cable, ethernet cable or USB connection. That seems like a positive benefit. If you move around a lot or you don’t want to mess with cables the STAR MICRONICS TSP654IIBI may be want you want.
Everything you need to get started taking in orders and money (except the iPad and the cash for the till!). Includes, Square credit card reader, receipt printer with Ethernet interface, 2 rolls of receipt paper, 13″ wide cash drawer with till, and all cables for connecting the printer and cash drawer.
I started off the implementation of Bluetooth printer support by using the same concurrency model used by our WiFi printer code and running Bluetooth printing and printer discovery blocks on a global concurrent queue. I quickly found what appeared to be a non-deterministic bug — sometimes I could print a receipt with no problem, and other times it would fail part way through. What I was in fact encountering was a timer firing and searching for connected printers while the app was in the middle of sending data to a printer. While this behavior was perfectly acceptable in communication for WiFi printers (TCP supports multiple simultaneous connections), it totally broke down in the new communication channel. It became clear that some kind of mutual exclusion was necessary to prevent this kind of collision.
To create your own bar codes and labels, you’ll need to use a third-party application. At the moment, we don’t support bar code and label printers and can’t guarantee compatibility, but many customers have success using the DYMO Label Writer 450 and labels with Square.
Square also has the option to use the Square Stand instead of the Square card reader. Unsure about whether you should use the Square Stand or a Square card reader for your business? See our Square Stand vs. Square Card Reader comparison.
Have not purchased this printer, but wanted to let people know that this is not the only printer that will work with Square. I have two Star Micronics printers, one Ethernet and one Bluetooth and both work fine with the Square app for iPad. I also have Ethernet based cash drawers that connect through the printers and those works just as well. This probably has the easiest set up, but it is not the only way.
@SSmobile @Kevin7 – I went ahead and moved both of your comments over to the thread where we are tracking this feature request. I totally understand your frustration and desire for Epson support. They make a mean printer that is also a fraction of the cost of most Star printers. I have personally passed this feedback along to our product team, and expanding compatibility is something that is top of mind for them. I’ll update this thread if/when this functionality is added in the future!
Impact printers print by using an ink ribbon on standard receipt printer. They are not heat sensitive, so are best for using in kitchens or other hot environments. They tend to print slowly and are loud, so we would only recommend them for businesses that need heat-resistant printing. Square works with:
This printer is terrible. It always has connectivity issues and it is constantly jamming. Worst mistake i made for my business. We have to keep it off until we get a customer otherwise it keeps printing no host receipts and it jams. Called star micronics they said it was probably an issue on my end. WRONG! MY other register, which is hooked up by same switch board, has an Epson printer and it gives no issues. Do not buy this printer for your business. Go with an Epson. Same amount of $, no problems.
In addition, there are a number of Bluetooth barcode scanners that can work with Square with limited functionality. These scanners can scan barcodes and look up products by SKU or product name, but they do not automatically add products to the current order. Bluetooth barcode scanners we tested include:
Note that you may connect a barcode scanner via USB cable to the Square Stand, but if you are using an iPad without Square Stand, the barcode scanner must be a bluetooth barcode scanner. For more information on the correct bluetooth scanner to use when connecting directly to an iPad, click here.
Star TSP650II TSP654IIBTI Printer (Bluetooth Interface / Auto Cutter / Dark Gray). Sorry No Drivers cd included. drivers can be downloaded from Star Micronics website. Setup is pretty simple. Press an…
